Thanks. This reminds me that I never got around to sharing Volume 6.

When I was a kid in the 1960's there was no Wal-Mart or Target. The 3 favorite stores here for a kid back then were Grant's, Woolworth's and J. J. Newberry's. They had the best toys and music in town here. I guess Sears would have been great for toys as well, but in those days our family only shopped there once a year, and that was for back to school clothes.

My Dad back then was just a beginning lineman for the phone company, and it was a struggle at times for a family of 5. So the cheap prices you could get at places like Grant's were a blessing. My Dad still uses his first 7 1/2 foot Grant's artifical, green Christmas tree that looks as good as new even now almost 40 years later. He got it on clearance for $10.00 the Winter that our Grant's closed down. I think it was about 1970.

Any chance of volume 6 going up or is it posted somewhere else on the web?

Sorry to hear you might be giving things up. I understand though, time and cash. Thanks for the lps you posted.

I have "A very Merry Christmas" Volumes 7 & 8 that I will be working on very soon. My uncle has volume 7 down in Florida.

Dave said...

That's cool. I'd appeciate front and back scans whenver possible to, or at least photos of each. I never knew there was a 7 & * until a few months ago. I thought 1 - 6 were it.

Dave, I'm also working on the last two volumes of WT Grants "A Very Merry Christmas" Volumes 7 and 8 that I will be adding very soon. Volumes 4 through 7 was from RCA and volume 8 was on Capitol. This was the only "Very Merry Christmas" LP to be released on the Capitol label which was Capitol Special Markets (formerly Capitol Creative Products).

I only have volume 8 but it's missing the album cover, but I don't have the LP cover for volume 8, but I hope if someone has it, please me know. Thanks!

Dave said...

Thanks.

Erick from Monsterama just sold me his copy of Volume 7, but he didn't have 8.

THanks. You saved me a lot of time. I actually have the Volume 7 LP now thanks to Erick at Monsterama, but don't have it ripped so I'll use yours if that is ok? Volume 8 I don't have yet so that will save me time as well.

BTW - you can make links clickable in Blogspot post by using the HTML coding of a href="" NAME /a. With the proper brackets of course.

The links for Volumes 7 & 8 do not work. Any fixes? Thanks for the great music.

Dave said...

Yeah makes a lot of sense for MegaUpload to delete the files for 7 and 8, and not 1 -6 doesn't it. Shows you what kind of morons are running that website. I'll be re-sharing all of my missing files soon. Right now because of the season I am concentrating on re-sharing all of my Halloween files first.

Hi Dave,

I'm glad you got the record. I hope you can find a place to host your shares that won't delete them. You have some incredible records.

By the way, my blog is Wonderful Wonderblog. Monsterama2000 is my screen name. Monsterama is a different blog.

Sorry about that. I knew that. CRS kicked in.

Dave I realize these posts and comments are over 2 years old, the links to the zips don't work. Are there other locations for these Grants Holidays zips?
Thanks,
Sam

They were offered at other blogs. The best thing to do is search Google Blogs for them.

Hi Dave!

Words cannot express how delighted I was to stumble upon your blog and find these albums! We had them all on vinyl and listened to them non-stop all holiday season (I probably drove my poor Mom nuts actually!)

I have a pretty moderate collection of Christmas music as well (somewhere in the ballpark of 125+ CD's but I stopped counting!)

Not sure if you have it, but I have a copy here of another WT Grant's album. It's called "First Christmas Album for Children." I have restored the missing track from the CD release (Red Skelton's "Little Christmas Tree.") I'd be more than happy to find a way to get a copy to you if you need it for your collection.

Many, many thanks again for putting these up! This Christmas will seem a bit brighter playing these beloved old albums again!

Best regards,
Tim

Greetings Dave!

Delighted beyond words to have found your blog and these wonderful albums! We had all these on vinyl when I was growing up, and listened to them constantly during the holidays! What a treat it will be to hear them all again!

I have a modest collection of vintage Christmas stuff here as well (somewhere in the ballpark of 125+ titles, but I stopped counting a long time ago!) There was another WT Grant's release; "First Christmas Record for Children." They re-released it on CD a number of years ago, but for legal reasons couldn't include the classic Red Skelton skit, "The Little Christmas Tree." Well, I restored that track, so it has all the originals, plus two "bonus" Mitch Miller tracks that they used to fluff out the CD re-issue. I'd be more than happy to try to get a copy in your hands if you'd like.

Thanks again for making these available! The holidays will be quite a bit merrier indeed with these playing!

Warm regards,
Tim

I'm glad I could help. I'd love a copy of that CD. You can email it to me somehow to davesworld56 AT msn DOT com.

Will do, Dave! Check your email. :)

Tim,

Please re-send that file as I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

Hi Dave!

I emailed the link to the file to you. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help! Best holiday wishes to you and yours!

Hi Dave!

I re-emailed that Dropbox link to you last night, let me know if you got it okay. Enjoy, and if I don't get the opportunity to do so, may you and your loved ones have a terrific holiday! :)

Tim

I am so glad to have stumbled onto your website. I have been looking for Vol 7 for a number of years now. When i was a kid my mom and dad had that vol on an 8 Track and i would play it to death during Christmas and to my surprise this was a series of albums which i didn't know.

Hi, Dave! Thanks so much! Lots of Christmas memories in these songs.

There seems to be an issue with the last track on Grants Volume 8 - the "Christmas medley for children". I can't seem to play it.

Just letting you know - not even sure if you are still watching the blog. :)

T.W. Day said...

Wow! This is fantastic that you have taken the time to pull this together. I have had 5 of the albums for years but they were played so much now the quality is bad.

Thanks so much!

Thanks a bunch for your hard work. Brings back memories. Volume 8 the final song - A Christmas medley for children is corrupt and can't be extracted.

Hi. I'm glad I sorta stumbled across this blog. Last week a very dear friend passed away and I'm helping the family get rid of some things, one is a lot of 45's and LPs. One of the LPs is the "A Very Merry Christmas" Vol.4. After almost 2 hours of trying to find a value before I list it on ebay, I need to know IF it has a monetary value, and if so, how much. If anybody can help me, please email me at the email addy that I've checked, but I digress...I've sold a lot of things in live auctions and so on over the years, but I know nothing about vinyl anymore as far as selling them because I never have, and don't even have a record player to listen the few that LOOK in good condition, and the album I'm asking about is at least in VGC+...VERY close to pristine. It still has the sleeve, and the plastic on the cover is still intact with the original Grant price sticker on it...$1.00. I'd love to keep it because of who it belonged to, but my job was to sell and get as much as I can, but a fair price at the same time for the daughter and grandson she left behind. Again, if anybody can help me wtih the value in the condition mentioned, email me and I'll owe you a Christmas song of your choice, live and in person if you don't mind a voice that sounds somewhere between Joe Cocker and Ray Charles! :) "If you live right and do right by other people, and keep the right attitude, EVERY day is Christmas!"
